I hope your semester is off to a great start. We've got some great events planned for this semester. I've included descriptions below. Please fill out this google formso I can plan accordingly and send details and reminders. Even if you're just interested but are currently unsure about the date, please go ahead and fill it out.
Spring Break: Putt Putt Golf at Frankie's Fun Park for $8 (or bowling if we get rained out). 3/25 (tentative): one of the following service events i. Technology workshop at a retirement home: Assist senior citizens to learn how to use their computers and smartphones. Topics may include checking email, using Skype, using Facebook, syncing phones to any medical devices they may have through apps, etc. ii. Habitat for Humanity: help to build or restore a home for the needy. 4/15 (tentative): Challenge Ropes Course through UNC for $15-30 (depending on the course). You and your group must work together to overcome a physical obstacle. More information here. May: A bar social to celebrate the end of the school year and finals. |
Hey! We LOVE social events! That's why we're going to post past and future events on this page - keep an eye out!
|
Past Events:
February:
2/24: Escape the Room for $25. You are locked in a room with a small group of people. You must work together to solve the puzzle of how to get out in under an hour.
November:
Bar social on 11/10 at Yesteryear's at 9 PM. Join us for drinks and just generally getting out of the department.
Friendsgiving on 11/24. Location and time are to be determined based on responses to the google doc. This will be a potluck style Thanksgiving. We'll probably also watch football and play boardgames.
December:
Holiday potluck dinner and Secret Santa on 12/10. Location is also to be determined based on response. You do not have to be involved in Secret Santa to come to the dinner. The random draw will be stratified by cohort, and the price limit is $10. I really encourage you all to come to this; it has been a popular event in the past. Some of us also choose to dress up a bit for this event, but such attire is not required. People show up anywhere from sweatpants to holiday dresses.
For those who do not know, Secret Santa is a sort of gift exchange. Everyone randomly draws the name of someone else and gets that person a gift.
If you plan to be in town over the winter break and want to know who else will be here, there is a section on the form to get in touch with other students who also plan to be here.
Saturday, October 15th
Join us for shows, funnel cake, and cute animals at the state fair. Don't forget to puchase your tickets for $8-9 at http://www.ncstatefair.org/2016/index.htm, or you can purchase at the door for $10.
Saturday, October 29th
Kayaking on Jordan Lake. This should cost around $35 for the whole day (if they run out of rentals, it will only be for 2 hours from a different company)
The BSA/Department are hosting a BIOS Buddies Meet and Greet Dinner, and we'd love for you to come!
